What a year, and what a Rawcember. Somehow this last month of this long, weird, year seemed to last about 60 years – just looking at all we managed to do, celebrate and release in the space of this December feels pretty amazing.
You can find all of that on the Rawcember page, but just to give you a short example of what’s been going on – here’s a few items from our list:
- Celebrated art with a Mosaic retrospective, and the release of Call of the Sea
- New sizzle reel from our amazing inhouse media team!
- A finely crafted letter to our lovely Kingdom community
- “Publisher published publishing agreement”
- A heartfelt chat with Tlön Industries about 2020
- We announced an Unreal Engine workshop slated for March 2021
And finally, Naseer shared his heart in a beautiful piece – This too shall pass – allowing us to get a glimpse into the path that led him here. The bravery of his parents and their generation in Iraq during the 70’s and 80’s. His experiences growing up as a kid that tried to outsmart birds to find the best figs and how to act when military jets suddenly burst through the open skies with the threat of bombs turning everything into an inferno. Climbing walnut trees, hiding from cows. Suffering through the genocidal chemical war that Saddam brought. And a reminder, that while this is his story – it’s not unique. That 80 million refugees are out there today, with 80 million stories to tell. And despite, or perhaps because, of this – Naseer has a unrelenting belief in humans, and in our abilities to push through whatever hardships we are facing.
I can’t think of a better note to end this year on, and I implore you to take the time to read and re-read it again. I’m thankful that I’m allowed to work with someone who I respect deeply as both a master of his craft, but also for the sheer fucking depth of his humanity. I love you man.
Thank you for reading, bearing with us and enjoying the art that the devs we are fortunate enough to have partnered with bring for us to help share and spread.
Stay fucking human.
